Pumpkins and a Walk through Delano

With Halloween just a week away, we decided it was time to find some pumpkins and start getting the costumes prepped. On Saturday, we drove out to a nearby pumpkin patch in search of the perfect pumpkin. Jacob, Henry, and Mama each found one they liked and we brought them home with us.

After naptime today, the sun was shining, offering good weather for a walk around town. We walked along the river, first stopping to see the progress being made on a floodwall (or rather, the foundations for one) being constructed on Bridge Ave. The boys both enjoyed seeing the large backhoe, along with finding and making use of walking sticks alongside the river.

DMU Open House and Brewing

This Saturday, the Werth family had an enjoyable day of fun activities. The weather was nice, so we started off with a bike ride to the “rock park”; the kids’ favorite park on the north end of town. After playing for a while, we headed to the Delano Marketplace housed in a recently renovated building next to the river, where artists and farmers were selling their crafts and goods.

Delano Marketplace - Can you find Henry and Elise?

After perusing the market, we walked across the street to the open house for the Delano Municipal Utilities, which was celebrating its 120th anniversary. The open house included a tour of the power plant, free goodies (CFL’s and baseball caps), and a ride on the bucket truck. To complete the event, we received a free lunch at the Legion across the street.

After our stomachs were filled, we biked back home. After putting the boys down for a nap, I dug out the brewing equipment and started my first batch of beer in over 3 years.

Homeowners Once Again

After searching and waiting, we are once again homeowners.

The new "back homey"

Last Friday (September 27th) we closed on our new house in Delano. We are excited about the house and its location but there is some work to be done (painting, cleaning, etc.) before moving in.

We got started right away on Saturday morning starting to clean, paint, and set up the new desk. After a full weekend, Elise decided to head out of town to chaperone 160 sixth graders in the north woods. It was a three-day field trip for the entire Rockford sixth grade filled with some great activities like orienteering, rock climbing, and canoeing. Meanwhile, Papa stayed home and took care of two boys who were battling colds/fevers.

Overall, we’re excited to get settled in Delano and be a part of this new community.
