Homecoming

The stars aligned this year and Saint John’s homecoming happened to fall on MEA weekend. We used that opportunity to take a small vacation, traveling up to Saint John’s University. On Friday afternoon, the pottery studio had a lighting ceremony for the Sister Johanna kiln. After watching the ceremony and grabbing dinner at Sexton, we drove in to Saint Cloud for the boys’ first stay in a hotel. They were excited to make use of the pool and amazed that a couch could turn into a bed.
The next morning we drove out to SJU and used the nice weather to see some of the campus. We met up with Grandpa Larry, hung around the kiln, and visited the church and science buildings. While we never made it to the game, it was nice to spend a relaxing day seeing the other areas of campus. Needless to say, it was a quiet ride home that afternoon!

Winter 2015

Christmas, New Year’s, Birthdays, and Valentine’s day all seemed to blur together this year. We had an enjoyable and relatively low key holiday season spending time at home and with family. Much to my dismay, we’ve had plenty of cold but no snow to go with it. Each time it snowed, it would melt right away so our snow activities have been much more limited than last year. Thankfully, we were able to go sledding once.

After the holidays were over we celebrated Jacob’s fourth birthday, where Elise delighted the boys with her Olaf cake.

Soon after, it was time to make our yearly trek up to Deep Portage (Hackensack, MN) for a fun weekend getaway over Valentine’s Day. Despite the cold (a high of -4° with lots of wind), we were able to get outside a few times. Of course, there were fun things to do indoors as well:

Hanging out in Hackensack

It’s now the end of February, and we’re *hopefully* wrapping up a few weeks of sickness that seems to be affecting almost everyone we know. We’ll see whether or not spring is going to arrive soon, or if we should keep the shovels prepped into May.

Father’s day, puppets, anniversary, et al

It’s been an exciting past week at the Werth house. Last weekend was Father’s Day and started off with installing a new (used) dishwasher as the old one decided to die.

Afterward, Mary, Larry, and Laura visited for an evening of grilling. With the start of the week, Elise and the boys visited Nonni as the hydrants were being flushed and caused some interesting water during the daytime.

Thursday rolled around, and along with it, our fifth anniversary. We decided to celebrate by going out to eat at the local Jukebox restaurant. On Friday, Nonni decided to visit the boys, and they had a fun time making sock puppets.

That night, we headed to Glencoe and stayed overnight with Grandpa and Grandma. While they were watching the boys, Elise and I had a quiet evening out at Lola’s on the Lake in Waconia. Unfortunately, during this time Laura’s house as well as a good majority of Glencoe was being flooded by heavy rains.

On Saturday, we spent the day relaxing and hanging out. Grandpa Fred received a late Father’s day gift and enjoyed grilling on it for the first time.

Today (Sunday) we said goodbye at mass to our parish priest, and spent the afternoon continuing the work on our walkways.

It’s been an active, but enjoyable, week!

Last day at TT’s

Auntie T had sand volleyball tonight so the boys went over to Mary and Larry’s where they will be staying for the next few days. We took advantage of the beautiful day today to go on a nice long walk collecting dandelions and checking out ant hills. Jacob was very sad that Grandma and Grandpa weren’t coming to TT’s house today, but was certainly looking forward to visiting Nonni and Grandpa and the kitties!

Teddy Bear Park

Today brought more adventures with Jacob and Henry! Lots of playtime in the morning. Henry’s first tooth! Jacob remembering the toy motorcycle tricks TT taught him. Henry confirming he really does gag when eating peas. Jacob making us all laugh with his nonstop chatter. Henry thinking that last night’s blowout wasn’t enough for Auntie so tried out projectile vomit all over TT’s face and chest when she went to pick him up. Jacob letting loose at Teddy Bear Park and running and screaming and having a grand old time. Henry just taking it all in. And maybe enjoying a bit of a warm weather treat afterwards.

Beach

Yesterday afternoon was spent at a playground before a storm hit. Today was a trip to the beach and playground. Jacob woke up after his afternoon nap to sadly find that Grandma and Grandpa were gone. Fun play time this afternoon, and TT found out what the Dinosaur Train is. Also had a good laundry helper. Which was done, of course, prior to Henry’s blowout. Lovely. Henry is getting crazy close to crawling, which you’ll see in one of the pictures. The little cuties are sleeping and auntie is having a glass of wine. 🙂

Fun at TT’s

Jacob and Henry have had their first couple days at TT’s house. They are doing well! Grandma came last night and Grandpa has arrived and surprised Jacob this afternoon! Jacob is entertaining us all with his expanding vocabulary, and TT is making sure to teach him all about Ducati motorcycles and wheelies. Henry is just observing all of the craziness and getting very close to becoming mobile.
